F-Gas Revamp for 2015

As of January 1st 2015 F-gas has updated their regulations to incorporate changes to the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. We have made a quick guide to ensure our customers are in the know of the new additions.

Below are the changes to sections across the board that effort Air Option’s day to day work. If you would like a more detailed explanation of the changes, visit the government website: F-gas

New Equipment purchased:

  • New: Companies must comply with the now banned Hyrofluorocarbon’s (HFO) in all new equipment.
  • New: Be mindful of service ban on specific refrigerant when selecting
  • New: Acknowledge the phase down of specific  HFC when selecting

Existing Equipment:

  • Leaks and repairs are compulsory
  • New: Use new virgin CO2 alternative CO2e size openings for compulsory checks
  • New: From January 1st 2015, new virgin CO2e size openings must be used for automatic leak detection.
  • it is mandatory to keep recorders of all equipment using HFC refrigerant
  • New: Service ban which affects maintenance on current high Global Warming Potential systems, R404A to name one
  • It is compulsory to use qualified technicians for refrigerant handling, leak tests etc

Decommissioning:

  • It is compulsory to recover all refrigerant from systems being decommissioned, which must be performed by a qualified engineer
