Air Options has been working for a number of years with a well known gym provider undertaking several refurbishments of the HVAC services across their sites.
We were recently asked to review one of their existing sites that had ageing plant installed, predominately served via an external packaged heat pump AHU with integral cooling / gas fired heating / filtration and fresh air supply.
The existing plant whilst still operating to some degree was not feasible for repair or replacement, due to costs for parts / age and level of control.
We therefore proposed that the existing plant was retained and used to offer fresh air only, given this element of the package and duct work infrastructure was good.
The packaged unit was then supplemented with multiple “exposed” 4-way cassettes being installed evenly throughout the main gym and weights areas.
Systems where installed with all services on display with galvanised taywork / unistrut frames needed to support the cassettes from the ceiling purlings.
All systems installed where manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric from the PLA range of products with PAR hard wired remote controllers fitted offering set point / fan speed / mode and timer functions.
The installation needed to be completed whilst the gym was in use so careful phasing of the works was needed given high level access equipment was needed / relocation of some gym equipment during the installation.
Once installed all systems where commissioned / test run and the gym now benefits from over 50 kw of cooling to keep customers happy during their workout.
